Calumet Bank and THINC Form Student Shadow Program

Calumet Bank and THINC College and Career Academy have begun a Student Shadowing Program that will allow THINC students to work alongside Calumet Bank team members on Saturday mornings.

This will allow students to realize the importance of having solid soft skills by putting their THINC based training into action by greeting Calumet Bank customers. This will also allow the students to get to know the Calumet Bank team members by spending time with them and asking questions regarding finance, business, and career readiness.

“The first time that I visited the THINC College and Career Academy campus, I came back to the bank and asked our President & CEO, Lenny Bateman, if there was any way we could actively incorporate those students in our lobby,” said Mike Speight, Calumet Bank LaGrange City President.

“We encourage our students to participate in a continuum of career-related experiences while they are in high school. In addition to these experiences teaching the students soft skills and technical skills, the experiences also help the students to build relationships and a professional network. Successful organizations will tell you that their most valuable resource is human resources. We agree! Calumet Bank’s shadowing program is one example of how public and private partnerships can work together to build a better workforce,” said Carrie Brkich, THINC Workforce Development Manager.

After months of planning and preparation, Calumet Bank is beginning the second round of having students actively engage with customers. Calumet Bank is also excited to engage in the perspective of high school students, and learn how their generation may desire for products and services to be delivered.
